Rudraksha can be characterized in the form of 1 Mukhi to 21 Mukhis. It is believed that people seeking success and a contented life must wear Rudraksh. And it is also believed, Rudraksha bead also nullifies the effects of malefic planets to a great extent. They offer security to the wearer. Every single bead is considered to be as auspicious and powerful as a Rudraksha.
Observances in Maha Shivratri
MahaShivaratri observances include poojas, abhisheka, fasting and staying awake at night with prayers and meditations. Devotees observe fast on the day before the Maha Shivaratri night. Some people have food only once a while some follow a fruit and milk diet. Some ardent devotees even abstain from consuming water for the entire duration of the fast. People visit Shiva temples and chant the sacred mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’. Some people perform the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra too. The devotees observing fast keep vigil all night, meditating or chanting prayers inside the temples.
